At such, professional tandem paragliding pilot must be a certified paragliding instructor or an assistant instructor with at least a T2 (Tandem Professional Pilot Rating). One can request to see the pilot license before starting of the tandem paragliding.

Paragliding Requirement

Anyone age above 18 years old (age below 18 need to be signed by parent) and weight is around 20 –  120kg for paragliding. However if ones have medical condition that may affect their ability to paraglide, they must consult with their doctor.

Paragliding Clothing and Accessories

It is important to wear comfortable clothing and shoes during paragliding. As you are joining tandem paragliding, do wear long pants and shirt and closed shoes (sport shoes). Do not wear fancy clothes and high heels or sandals as you need to be comfortable before (need to run during take off), during paragliding and landing time.

Flight Time

Paragliding flying time is around 10 – 15 minutes. Most of the pilot try their best to give as long as possible up to 30 minutes but it depends on the weather.

In Malaysia, as we do not have any seasons but the best month to fly is around Apr – Sep. This is due to Oct – Mar there is raining season which paragliding flight might be cancel due to poor weather.

Insurance

As above mentioned, pilots are need to be certified. Most of the pilots are usually being insured. During tandem paragliding, in case of any injury happen, your pilots paragliding insurance will cover you as well (do check with each respective paragliding pilot to make sure you are also being insure).

Pilot Training Schools in Malaysia

There are various piloting paragliding course in Malaysia. It is important to master skills and knowledge to fly safely which your instructor will closely monitor your flights even after completion.

Beginner paragliding course takes 4 – 5 days over the weekends with theory lesson and practical skills which should covers the below:

Health and Fitness Requirement for Paragliding

After your course, you will have the skills to launch and land safely. At such, you need to practice more (initially after your course, you will be monitor by your instructor until you gain enough experience to launch and landing without much monitoring). Practice make perfect.

You will be certified and get a Student Identification card which identify you to paraglide at others sites. This card also include your insurance coverage.

Paragliding Clothing 

You will need to wear light long shirts and pants (or quick-dry clothes) with a hat/cap. Do wear a good sport shoe for good support as the course will involve lot of training. Also, do bring along sunblock as you will be under the sun the whole day.

Gunung Raya in Langkawi has been one of popular paragliding area in the recent years. However the take off area is small and tight (not recommended for beginners). The take off elevation is around 900m.

Pedas is location near Senawang in Negeri Sembilan.  The paragliding site is located at Pedas Paragliding Park. The take off  is about 800 feet.

Paragliding Terengganu – Bukit Bubus

Bukit Bubus is located in Besut, Terengganu.  The paragliding site is located in Kota Putera Paragliding Park in Besut. This is is consider one of the best place for paragliding in Malaysia as it is near to beautiful sea (this place also has similarity to Paragliding in Bali, Indonesia). The take off elevation is about 100 feet and be glide up to 500 feet above sea level.

Paragliding Johor – Gunung Ledang

Gunung Ledang is located between the border of Johor-Melaka in Johor. Gunung Ledang is the highest peak in Johor. Paragliders can take off at 1,052m elevation. This is another unique place for paragliding as this paraglide above the nature around mountains.

Paragliding Sabah – Ranau & Bukit Kokol

Ranau is located about 108km from Kota Kinabalu. This take off site is at the foothill of Mount Kinabalu at around 594m. This paragliding at Ranau is beautiful with hills and valleys.
